Sprinkle Easter Eggs

Adorn your Easter eggs with colorful sprinkles this year. This sweet touch of whimsy will take hard boiled eggs to a whole new level of darling!

Sprinkle Easter Eggs

I’m always searching for new and exciting ways to decorate my Easter eggs. This year I decided to sweeten them up a bit with sprinkles and colored sugar. I mean who doesn’t love sweet and sparkling?

Sprinkle Easter Eggs

After a long hard winter my soul is always searching for some color and fun and these sweet little eggs were just the thing to satiate my yearning. I experimented with egg whites to use as a glue but it wasn’t strong enough. The sugar just melted and wouldn’t stick fast enough. I wanted to make sure that the hard boiled eggs would be safe to eat so I started searching to find some other options. Did you know that meringue powder mixed with water makes an edible glue-like substance?  I didn’t either but I’ve got to tell you it works like a charm.

I mixed 2 tablespoons of the meringue powder with 1 1/2 tablespoons of water and painted it onto the eggs with a brush and then rolled them in sprinkles and sugar. I played around with different powder to water ratios and found that this worked best for me. I liked the glue a bit thicker because it held the sprinkles in place.

The world of sweet confections is your oyster at this point. You can choose to mix and match your sprinkles, cover half and half with different colors or stick to a one colored theme like I did. And I don’t know about you, but I’ve never seen anything cuter.

Wishing you an Easter filled with everything sweet!

    • That’s a great question Amy! I used the meringue glue right over the shell. It’s really fun to peel off the thick sprinkle crusted shell when it’s time to eat them! Thanks so much for stopping by!
