Fabulous Find Friday ::: Antique Measuring cups

I recently enjoyed an afternoon antiquing with a few of my favorite people, Amy, Bridget and Angie. We had a ball. Antiquing is one of my very favorite things to do but antiquing with some of my very favorite people? Well that is just sublime. My last Friday Find helped in tidying up the loo. This week my fabulous find whilst antiquing is something that I can use all around my house.

My find? These darling antique white measuring cups.

And I must admit that I am so very smitten with them.

I think that I may have actually squealed *out loud* when I saw them. I’m subtle like that.

I use them for so many different things in the kitchen.

And I have incorporated them into my home decor for Spring.

I mean if that isn’t the sweetest thing you’ve ever seen?

A nest that’s nestled all snug in its own nest of antique measuring cups? Precious.

My coffee table is now happily adorned.

Which makes me happy as well.

I may just try them as jewelry holders next. What would you do with a stack of antique measuring cups?  Do share!

Happy Finding and have a Fabulous Friday friends!

Sweet & Spicy Pork Lettuce Wraps

Nothing pleases me more than making a meal to enjoy with my family. There is something deeply satiating about nourishing those you love with good food and I feel so blessed to be able to do it. But not everybody has this luxury. There are so many people in this world (and in your own neighborhood) who don’t have the ability to put food on their table. So when I was asked to help Ohio’s foodbanks, I jumped at the chance!

And guess what? You can help too!

Each time someone visits Ohio’s hog farmers on YouTube to watch this darling “Pork from Fork to Farm” video, Ohio Pork Producers Council and its partners will donate one pound of ground pork to Ohio’s foodbanks. Do you believe it?  You can help feed the hungry with one little click from the comfort of your own home. How easy is that?

In keeping with the theme of the campaign, I was asked to make a recipe using ground pork. I decided to make Sweet and Spicy Pork Lettuce Wraps. They are perfect for Spring and make a delightful appetizer or a dazzling main meal.

These are some of the flavorful ingredients I used.

And did I mention that these lettuce wraps are a one dish meal?

I’ve got to admit that while I love pork, I have never used ground pork. I’m pleased to say that it is divine!

The only other thing you’ll need to make your meal complete are lettuce leaves and a little bit of your favorite dipping sauce. Personally, I didn’t even use the dipping sauce. The flavors were so vivid and delicious I just didn’t need any.

We enjoyed the sweet & spicy pork filling wrapped in Boston Lettuce leaves because I happen to love their buttery flavor, but any ol’ lettuce will suffice!

Just spoon the filling into a lettuce leaf,

and top with Daikon sprouts,

or crispy rice noodles.

Sweet and Spicy Pork Lettuce Wraps are easy and affordable not to mention delicious. I know as I feed my family this evening I shall count my blessings and be ever so grateful for the opportunity to do so. Please join me in the effort to help feed others who are hungry. You’re help is just a click away.

Disclaimer: This post is sponsored by the kind folks of the Ohio Pork Producers Council, but as always, all thoughts, opinions and photos are my own.

Here’s the recipe for Sweet & Spicy Pork Lettuce Wraps

Makes 8-12 small wraps

Here’s What You’ll Need :

For the meat filling :

1 teaspoon sesame oil
1 pound ground pork
1 shallot, diced
1/4 cup red bell pepper, diced
1/4 cup water chestnuts, diced
1 garlic clove, minced
1 Tablespoon red pepper flakes
2 Tablespoons Sriracha sauce (to coat the finished pork filling before serving)

For the sweet & spicy sauce:

1/4 cup fresh squeezed orange juice
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2  teaspoon freshly grated ginger
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1/4 cup rice wine vinegar
1/4 cup soy sauce

Here’s What You’ll Do:

Heat 1 teaspoon of sesame oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Saute shallots until they become translucent. Add red bell peppers stirring occasionally until they become soft, about 5 minutes, add garlic and stir before adding the ground pork. Add salt and red pepper flakes. While the pork is browning, put all ingredients for the sweet & spicy sauce into a bowl and whisk until everything is incorporated. Once the pork is fully browned pour the sweet & spicy sauce into the pan stirring until all liquid has reduced. Add water chestnuts and for the last finishing spicy touch, pour in 2 Tablespoons of Sriracha sauce and stir until all of the ground pork is coated. Spoon into freshly washed and dried lettuce leaves and serve.

Fabulous Find Friday! ::: Towel Ladder

Today is the very first Fabulous Find Friday on Wenderly.

You see, I love to find things. Sometimes I go out on a search to find something, and other times certain objects just tend to find me. Have you ever had that happen to you? You know what I mean don’t you? When you’re innocently walking along in a store and POOF something just jumps out and finds you, grabs ahold of your heart and soul, convincing you that you simply MUST buy it and take it home with you?

Please tell me that happens to you.

Well in an attempt to justify I mean share some of the fabulous finds that I come across on my ventures, I have decided to start a Fabulous Find Friday here on my blog. I figure that it will be both helpful (in explaining to my husband why I must keep up my quest in finding things) and fun and for you!

This is a bathroom at our cabin that tends to be rather sweet, yet very small.

Storage is at a minimum and therefore we needed to find a solution for the plethora of towels needed to accommodate our family. I set out to a favorite antique mall one Saturday morning and stumbled across that darling ladder. I knew the moment I laid eyes on it that I had found the perfect fit! Rustic and simple, not too big nor too small and just the right color.

Need a quaint, tidy and inexpensive storage solution for towels? Try a ladder!

Happy Finding and have a Fabulous Friday friends!

Snow Day

What is it about a snow day?

The world just seems to stand still.

Frozen if you will…

in a hushed quiet stillness that comes from nothing else.

There’s an element of magic wrapped within each tiny snowflake as they silently follow one another down to the ground.

We all seem take a moment to stop whatever it is that we are doing to take a gaze into the snow filled air and watch as the green grass quietly turns white.

There’s a peaceful stillness that gives us permission to slow down, nestle in, and cuddle up.

Or at the very least sit down,

and let the snow charged wind blow through our hair.

As we ponder the beauty that only winter can provide.

And relish in the satiating contentment that comes with it.

In an instant our minds flash back to our childhood, and we become flooded with all of the adventure and excitement of snowflakes tickling our rosy cheeks and eye lashes.

And we find that we can’t resist but to rub our noses in the freshly fallen snow.

Kinda makes you feel like a kid again.

Everybody needs a snow day every now and then, don’t they?

Have fun!

The Present of Presence

Yesterday my sister invited our entire family to attend a church Christmas concert.

I walked in wrapped up in thought about all of the presents that still had to be found, bought, and tied up in ribbons and bows.

But as I sat there listening to the glorious music and the magnificent message that was being delivered from the hearts of the people in the choir, I could hear God whispering in my ear…

“It’s not the presents that matter, Wendy, it’s My presence and the presence of those you love that matter.”

Tears dripped and my heart opened.

The darkness of the horrific events that unfolded in Connecticut on Friday that had been weighing so heavily on my heart suddenly became lighter

as the light of God wrapped me in a way not even the warmest human hug can.

I was reminded that the true treasures in life have absolutely nothing to do with earthly riches,

but rather the gift of God’s grace and His presence and the presence of those we love and cherish for as long as we are blessed to have them.

I know that many are silent today in honor of those who are suffering in so much pain and grief. But I just couldn’t ignore God’s whispers to share His loving and healing presence in the midst of the season of presents. And I especially wanted to share that I am praying for the comfort of God’s love for all who are suffering so.

May you be wrapped in God’s presence today,

Full of Grateful

Being present and in the moment is a most glorious thing. Lately I have found myself quietly thanking God for all of the spectacular gifts that he gives me throughout each and every day…things that I usually take for granted have made me realize something…

The more that you allow yourself to stand in the moment of thankfulness the more grateful your heart will become.

The more grateful your heart becomes,

the less worry and stress you will feel.

The less worry and stress you feel,

the more you can focus on what really matters in this life.

Not to mention,

WHO really matter in this life.

Then you have more time to enjoy the little indulgent pleasures in life, like antiquing.

Or taking a stroll through your garden,

just in time to spot the very last blooming flower of the season.

The chaos of living life in fast forward slows into the present.

The place where you find the time to stand still in the moment of thankfulness,

which in turn brings about gratefulness.

And Peace.

Wishing you a very Happy Thanksgiving. May you find the time to allow your heart be full of Grateful.

Wouldn’t that be precious!? Can’t you just imagine an initial pipped on the dollop of whipped cream? Or maybe the name written along the bottom?

And who knows… maybe I’ll even throw in a few beloved pumpkins for good measure!? I just can’t pass up an adorable pumpkin!

Have you ever laid eyes on pumpkins as precious as these?

Just take a look at Bridget’s detailed step-by-step instructions on every single page!

She’s beyond brilliant I tell you!

A few weeks ago after receiving this delicious book in the mail, my girls and I poured over it for days. My eldest (who happens to think that Bridget is the cat’s meow and still can’t believe that I actually know her) was so inspired by the book, (and a darling little care package that Bridget sent to her when she found out that my daughter wanted to make cookies) that she decided to dive in and bake up some cookies of her own.

She had such a ball making and baking Bridget’s scrumptious vanilla-almond sugar cookies! She was so excited that she even grabbed my camera and snapped a few photos of the process!

She followed Bridget’s royal icing technique’s to a *T*.

Then I couldn’t help myself from grabbing my camera to capture more of the adorableness…

I love that she tried her hand at pipping some words.

Would you look at that pink elephant and sweet lil kitty! I think that she did a marvelous job!

Don’t brightly-colored-iced-sugar-cookies just put a huge smile on your face?

Mine too.

Be sure to look for Bridget’s lovely new book: Decorating Cookies 60+ Designs For Holidays, Celebrations & Everyday by Bridget Edwards on Amazon or in your local bookstore!  It will be sure to put a smile on anybody’s face!

Tiramisu Affogato and the Syntia Focus Espresso Machine

In case you didn’t know this…Coffee is like air to me.

Coffee and I have had a longtime love affair. So you can only imagine my ecstatic state of mind when I received this gorgeous Syntia Focus Espresso Machine  made by Philips Saeco to play with and review a few weeks ago. I mean isn’t she a beauty!?

I’m embarrassed to admit that I…lover-of-coffee…have never even owned an espresso machine. I have always brewed my own coffee the in a basic coffee pot and then relied on my favorite coffee house for my *real deal* cup of coffee later in the day. Well I am here to tell you that my coffee drinking life has changed forever! I have hopelessly fallen in love my espresso machine! I was a tad bit intimidated to try it out at first but after reading the manual *ahem* (and by that I mean My Yanni reading the manual and then describing in every little intricate detail what to do and not to do ), I put on my barista hat and I was ready to go. Once you understand the different sequences, and remember to pay attention to the illuminated  prompts, making the perfect cup of espresso or coffee is just a simple button push away!

My Yanni and I have been enjoying all sorts of fantastic coffee drinks lately. My kitchen smells of divine robust coffee and I’m finding that I don’t need to make daily trips to my favorite coffee house any longer. We  have even swapped out our beloved coffee maker for the gorgeous espresso machine! Something that I never thought would ever happen! Its sleek rich design and ability to whip up a fantastic cup of coffee 0r espresso in minutes makes keeping it out for all to enjoy a no-brainer.  This past weekend we took our coffee loving experience a step further and made a decadent dessert to accompany our after dinner espresso, we made Tiramisu Affogato.

Such a stunning and delicious specimen.

And it was a total cinch to make.

This is a perfect dessert to dazzle guests with at any dinner party!

We just made a double shot of espresso,

placed a few lady finger cookies in the bottom of a bowl.

Plopped a big dollop of vanilla bean ice cream on top,

shaved some dark chocolate,

then poured the hot espresso all over the top.

Creamy, dreamy, rich and coffee-chocolatey…

It was a match made in heaven!

Here are my thoughts about the Philips Saeco Focus Espresso Machine…

Pros –

* We get to enjoy coffee house quality coffee drinks in the comfort of our own home.

* The machine takes minutes to prepare each drink.

* The sleek beautiful design of the Syntia Focus looks stunning on my kitchen counter.

* We can enjoy espresso as well as a long coffee (espresso with more water) that both taste incredible!

* We are saving money buy indulging our coffee habit at home rather than driving to our favorite coffee house.

* We can use any coffee/bean that we like and are not restricted to those packets/pods of coffee.

Cons –

* The machine can be loud while it prepares to make a drink.

* You must remember to push the buttons in proper sequence or the machine will dump the coffee before it has been used.

* The small opening and flip lid over the coffee hopper makes it tricky to get the coffee grounds dumped in without spilling some.

I must state for the record, that My Yanni and I give the Syntia Focus a two thumbs up! We really love the fact that we can easily replicate and enjoy delicious upscale coffee drinks in the comfort of our own home!

Here’s the yummy recipe!

Tiramisu Affogato

(serves 1)

What you’ll need:

3 lady finger cookies
1 scoop vanilla bean ice cream
1 Tablespoon shaved dark chocolate
2 shots hot espresso

What you’ll do:

Place lady fingers in the bottom of a bowl, plop a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream on top, sprinkle shaved chocolate and pour hot espresso all over the top.

Sit back and enjoy!

Happy Caffeinating!

Autumn Splendor

I love sharing decorating ideas full of autumn splendor and delight!

Deep sigh.

Autumn just seems to transform the land into a real-life fairytale, doesn’t it? The blistering summer heat cools into a comforting chill that refreshes the heart and invigorates the soul.

I love the way the days become shorter as the air becomes crisp…

the way the plants slowly stop growing before curling up for a long winter’s nap…

the spectacular splendor of leaves as they burst into color making the world a marvelous spectacle to behold…

wrapping my hands around that first hot cup of coffee for warmth as the frosty night air turns into a blazing Autumn sunrise…

nestling up to that first crackling fire in the fireplace…

relishing in that first bite of a delicious honey crisp apple…

inhaling the intoxicating aroma of pumpkin muffins baking…

listening to the cheering of a crowd from a far-off  football game echoing through the dark night…

wrapping myself up in a cozy warm sweater…

wearing my very favorite pair of jeans with my oldest very favorite pair of soft leather boots.

And I especially love hunting for pumpkins…

and finding just the right one…or twelve…but who’s counting?

You may already know this about me but I have a pumpkin problem. I love pumpkins and everything about them. Each Autumn I make a quiet promise myself to have some self control and curtail my pumpkin hunting to a minimum. But alas, my pumpkin-loving heart always seems to win out.

I think that pumpkins are magical.

And mystical and perfectly wonderful.

A pumpkin was Cinderella’s ride to the ball after-all.

Pumpkins adorn my every room as Autumn ushers in its fairytale spell…

they linger on tables tucked within candles.

They are perched upon pedestals dressed in satin ribbons,

placed upon antique white compotes on coffee tables to become part of an afternoon conversation,

and nestled into urns sprinkled throughout the house.

Aren’t you in love with pumpkins too?

Take a moment today, to enjoy the splendor and majesty of this most splendid season.

Happy Autumn!
