Thanksgiving Mantle :: Gold Leaf Garland

Dress up your Thanksgiving mantle with a gorgeous gold leaf garland. You’ll get a sophisticated look with minimal effort that costs next to nothing!

Thanksgiving Mantle Gold Leaf Garland

I usually don’t do too much for my Thanksgiving mantle but after making my gold leaf pace cards, I just couldn’t seem to put my spray paint can down! I was so smitten with their luscious luster I just knew that I had to continue the gold leaf theme and embellish my mantle as well!

Thanksgiving Mantle Gold Leaf Garland

Garlands have become a staple decoration in my home. They are just so sweet and unassuming and add such a celebratory statement to any room.

Thanksgiving Mantle Gold Leaf Garland

For my mantle, I decided on a simple and somewhat small leaf and to give an all over unified affect, I gathered a collection of leaves that were all similar in shape and size.

Thanksgiving Mantle Gold Leaf Garland

After spray painting both sides of the leaves, I simply hung some white string across my mantle and hung them with small wooden clothes pins (that I found at Michaels).

Supplies you’ll need for a gold leaf garland :

Thanksgiving Table Ideas :: Gold Leaf Place Cards

Thanksgiving is two weeks away and I’ve got some fun table ideas for you! Greet each special guest as they gather around your table with a personalized gold leaf place card.

Thanksgiving Table Ideas Gold Leaf Place Cards

I’m a fan place cards. It’s a subtle detail that makes a table feel finished and your guests feel welcome. I love to come up with original ideas that dovetail into the overall decorations of my table. This year I decided to bring nature indoors and glam it up with my glitter gourds and gold leaf place cards.

Thanksgiving Table Ideas Gold Leaf Place Cards

They’re so elegant and simple, I just adore them! And you’ll just love how easy they are to make. Collect an assortment of leaves wash and dry them and find a well ventilated area (or outside) to spray paint them.

Thanksgiving Table Ideas Gold Leaf Place Cards

I experimented with a few different craft paints but they took forever to dry and the leaves ended up curled because of it. After some investigation I found the PERFECT spray paint at Michaels. It dries in minutes, gives a nice thick coat and had the exact gold finish that I was looking for. I wanted the look of gilded without the expense.

Thanksgiving Table Ideas Gold Leaf Place Cards

I sprayed both sides of the leaves and stems to give an all over finished look, it also helped to seal and preserve the leaves. Aren’t they lovely?

So simple, stylish and sophisticated.

After they dried I tied some sweet little ribbon on the stems and wrote my guests names on each leaf with a black felt tip pen. You could always write a simple initial if you wish. I liked the way the names looked.  I made sure to make a couple extra leaves to tuck around my centerpiece for an added touch.

Supplies you’ll need for gold leaf place cards ::

Thanksgiving Decorations :: Glitter Gourds

Need some ideas for Thanksgiving decorations? Well look no more! Glitter gourds are an easy and inexpensive way to glam up your holiday table this year!

Thanksgiving Decorations Glitter Gourds

This year Thanksgiving will be enjoyed around my table and I’ve been flitting about getting my home in order. I delight in setting a table for a special occasion. Putting Thanksgiving decorations together always makes me slow down and take a trip down memory lane. Gathering beloved dishes and linens, deciding on what items will make an appearance on the table that year and putting place cards together reminds me of what the holidays are all about.

Thanksgiving Decorations Glitter Gourds

Pumpkins and gourds always seem to find their way into my Thanksgiving decorations. I begin collecting them before Halloween and justify my obsession by knowing that they will last through November. This year I decided to dust my gourds with glitter to give my usual traditional centerpiece a glamorous effect.

Thanksgiving Decorations Glitter Gourds

And I must say that I am quite smitten with the outcome! The gourds sparkle and twinkle as if a magic frost encrusted them one Autumn evening. And who doesn’t like a little magic? The good news is, they’re easy as can be to make. I just painted some Mod Podge® onto the gourds, (some I completely covered and some just have a tinge around the top) then I sprinkled them with some opalescent glitter and let them dry.

Thanksgiving Decorations Glitter Gourds

I arranged them on my table, tucked a few votive candles here and there (the glitter gourds look gorgeous by candlelight) and then moved onto my other Thanksgiving decorations. I’ll be sharing those ideas with you very soon!

Supplies for the glitter gourds :

  • Gourds (you can usually find them in an assorted bag at your grocery store)
  • Mod Podge (any craft store should have this, you could use a craft glue that dries clear instead)
  • Opalescent glitter
  • sponge paint brush

Glittering tip :: I like to use 2 flimsy paper plates when glittering. I dust the gourds over one plate, shake off excess, and then use that extra glitter to pour (with the paper plate folded to guide glitter) over the next gourd sitting on the 2nd plate and keep repeating.

Thanksgiving Decorations Glitter Gourds

And that’s all there is to making some inexpensive yet glamorous Thanksgiving decorations that will enchant your guests as they gather around your table.

Now go get your glitter on!

Wishing you a magical Thanksgiving,

Halloween Decorations :: Cameo Pumpkins

These cameo pumpkins are an easy and elegant way to decorate your home for Halloween. They take minutes to put together but will give your home a sophisticated spooky look that will last throughout the season.

Decorate your Halloween Pumpkins with Cameos

I have adored and collected cameo jewelry whilst antiquing for years now. I am so drawn to the creamy white silhouettes framed in smooth black backgrounds. Each cameo seems to have its very own story and I just can’t help myself when I come across one that speaks to me. My husband always smiles and laughs and asks me what I’ll do with yet another cameo and now I have an answer! I’ll make cameo pumpkins with them!

Halloween Decorations Cameo Pumpkins

I used white pumpkins so that the cameos would stand out but you easily paint orange pumpkins white.

Halloween Decorations Cameo Pumpkins

I hung my pendant cameos with a straight pin and the brooches and earrings just pushed right in on their own.

Halloween Decorations Cameo Pumpkins

If you don’t happen to have a cameo collection then you need to get started! Just kidding.

No, seriously, if you don’t have any cameos you can actually find some in craft stores that are inexpensive and easy to get! I actually found this one below at Hobby Lobby!

Cameo pumpkins will be my new easy and elegant decorating go to! I hope that they’ll be the same for you!

Halloween Decorations :: Centerpiece

Halloween Decorations don’t have to be expensive or fussy. White pumpkins and black ribbon bats make a perfect simple yet elegant Halloween table centerpiece.

Halloween Decorations Centerpiece

Black and white seems to be a favorite theme of mine as far as Halloween decorations are concerned. A few years back I shared a black and white table with carved polka dotted  pumpkins that glowed eerily over a black web tablecloth. This year I went with more of a whimsical feel with black ribbon bats that happily hover over mini white pumpkins. I love to create a seasonal centerpiece each month for my table so that it can be enjoyed it all month long. Dinners seem easier and it motivates me to usher my family into the living room to sit down for a meal shared around the table rather than squeezing around the island for a quick meal.

Halloween Decorations Centerpiece

These black ribbon bats seem to be flying throughout my entire home this Halloween! I fell in love with them as I hung them in my foyer from a branch  to greet all of our guests and now I can’t stop making them.

Guess I’ve gone batty! Ha.

They’re just so simple and sweet that I can’t resist them. The centerpiece bats were made with black ribbon folded in half, cut along the bottom with a few curved cuts and then twisted tightly in the center with a black floral wire (that I found at my local Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Store).

Halloween Decorations Centerpiece

Then I just pushed the wire into the mini white pumpkin. How easy is that?

Halloween Decorations Centerpiece

The rest of the centerpiece consisted of a gathering of multi-sized mini white pumpkins (from Trader Joe’s) an antique silver tray and cake plate stand with a few silver votive candles tucked about.

Supplies for Halloween Decorations for your centerpiece :

  • different sizes of white mini pumpkins (real or artificial)
  • 3 inch black ribbon
  • black floral wire
  • silver tray
  • silver cake plate stand
  • silver votive candles

Our crisp Autumn days will be ending with warm savory meals shared around a festive centerpiece during the month of October. Yours can too with these easy Halloween decorations!

Wishing you many meals shared around a beautiful centerpiece!

Halloween Decorations :: The Foyer

Greet all of you Autumn guests with some festive Halloween decorations in your foyer. Nothing sets the tone of your home like that first warm inviting step.

Halloween DecorationsThe Foyer

Halloween decorations have always been a favorite of mine ever since I was a little girl. I can still vividly remember those first crisp autumn days when my mom would pull out all of the folding paper pumpkins (the kind that opened up into a little orb of tissue honeycomb), do you remember those? I would help her fan them open and tuck back the little silver clip that held the pumpkin shape in place. Oh how I loved traipsing around behind her as she placed them about the house. My love of decorating with pumpkins must have started there, with those sweet little folding tissue pumpkins. But as the years have passed, I have traded my paper pumpkins in for real ones and I always smile and think of my mom as I place them about my house.

This year as I placed my  beloved cinderella pumpkin in my foyer I decided to add a few other embellishments to make my Halloween scene complete.

Halloween Decorations The Foyer

I just leaned a simple tree branch (that I found in my yard) against the wall and wove some store bought spider webbing through the branches.

Halloween Decorations The Foyer

Tucked in a few plastic spiders and hung up a couple of black ribbon bats.

The black ribbon bats are cinch to make! Just cut a piece of ribbon, tie a clear piece of craft string tightly around the center into a knot. Fold the ribbon in half and cut a few notches along the bottom edge of the ribbon to shape the wings.

Halloween Decorations The Foyer

Voila!  You’ve got a bat!

Invite guests into your home with a festive foyer this Halloween!

Halloween Decorations The Foyer

It’s a s easy as can be!

Supplies for Halloween Decorations in your foyer :

  • pumpkin (real or artifical)
  • tree branch
  • store bought spider web and plastic spiders
  • 3 inch wide black ribbon
  • clear craft string

Peony Flower Bouquet

A Peony flower bouquet adds easy elegance and charm to any room in your home.

Peony flower bouquet

Peony season is sadly coming to an end but my love for this exquisite flower always lasts the whole year through! Perhaps you’re lucky enough to live where these glorious beauties are still producing, I’ve still got a few buds ready to burst into a perfect pink blossom. Oh how I wish my peony would bloom the whole summer through!

So although my timing for sharing the beautiful peony with you is a bit behind due to some blog issues, I felt that in this case, better late than never was the way to go!

Peony flower bouquet

The soft, elegant, ruffle-like petals perfumed with the sweetest scent of spring always make my heart sing! The peony is such a romantic flower. Did you know that it dates back thousands of years and is known as the flower of riches and honor? It is also known to represent good fortune and a happy marriage.

Peony flower bouquet

I certainly know that a bouquet of these lovelies keeps me happy! However there is one drawback when bringing these lush flowers into your home…the ants! They love the peonies as much as I do and they invade the petals as their soft and comfy refuge. And who could blame them? I would too if I could!

Peony flower bouquet

But there happens to be an easy (and humane) way to eradicate these pesky little friends before they make their way into your home. Simply soak the flowers in a container of water until the little fellows are forced to swim out of their petal abode. I usually do this outside so that I can scoop the ants out of the water and return them to the comforts of my backyard.

Peony flower bouquet

Peony flower bouquet

It’s so easy to put together a peony bouquet.

  • Soak the stems and blooms in a container of water to remove ants before taking the flowers inside.
  • Once the ants are gone, gently shake the blooms to release the extra water.
  • Snap the leaves off along the bottom of the stem so they don’t decay.
  • Cut the stem at an angle to give more surface area to drink in the water.
  • Place the peonies in a pretty vase.

Peony Flower Bouquet

A peony bouquet equals easy elegance that will bring a smile to your lips as well as your heart. And who knows? Maybe some prosperity too?

Oh, For the Love of Autumn

Autumn. Just whispering the word makes a warm smile spread across my lips.

I love everything about the season.

Bushels of plump, perfect pumpkins.

Magnificent, brightly colored mums adorning the storefronts begging for a spot on your front stoop.

Candy apple red shoes shining brightly out from beneath a dark, comfy pair of  jeans.

Glorious sunrises that seem to warm even the crispest of frosty mornings.

Accompanied by fragrant pumpkin pancakes that warm your heart and soul.

Golden trees that stand tall and proud as they show off their Autumn foliage.

While a rainbow of leaves gather on the ground amongst the still green grass.

Radiant red leaves of a Japanese Maple borrow the brilliant blue skies to be their temporary backdrop.

And as suppertime rolls around, the sun on its new schedule, gently slips away through the trees.

While pipping hot brown sugar and cinnamon baked apples are pulled out of the oven and wait patiently,

to end the delicious Autumn day on the sweetest of notes.

Oh, for the love of Autumn!

Fabulous Find Friday ::: Antique Enamel Bowl

Have you ever fallen in love (whilst antiquing) with something that you don’t necessarily need but just HAVE to have?

It’s the story of my life.

But most of the time that something that I don’t necessarily need quickly becomes something that I can’t live without once I get home.

This antique enamel bowl is one of those things…

When I first laid my eyes upon that smooth, perfectly white, flawless surface I just knew that I HAD to have it.

But once I ran my finger along the perfectly painted forest green edge, well then, I knew that there was no turning back.

And guess what?

I’m so very delighted that I acted on my impulse! This dear antique enamel white bowl has served me well.

It makes a positively precious container for all of my herbs that I keep beside my kitchen window.

When entertaining, it makes the most delightful (leak free) beverage tub.

After a long day of antiquing, it makes the perfect foot bath in switch to soak my aching feet.

*Not pictured*

And then when I may or may not purchase a plethora of pretty flowers?

It adoringly displays those as well.

If you don’t already own an antique white enamel bowl, (or twelve) *ahem* well then, I strongly suggest that you do.

You won’t be sorry.

Happy Friday All!
