Winter Table Place Settings

These winter table place setting ideas are a delightful way to embrace all of the simple beauty that a cozy winter day has to offer.

Winter Table Place Settings

Winter adventures always remind me of the simple delights of the days gone past. Visions of enchanting small towns nestled in a blanket of white. Quaint little frozen ponds surrounded by pine trees dressed in sparkling gowns of snow. Sleigh bells that jingle softly in the distance. I’m not sure why I paint those winter scenes in my mind, but they always comfort my soul somehow. So this January, I decided to create a table with all of those charming vintage images in mind.

I began with candles wrapped in sweaters sitting upon disks of wood surrounded by various sizes of pinecones for my centerpiece. I talked about how to make the sweater candles here.

Winter Table Place Settings

I added some mercury glass hurricanes for some icy sparkle.

Winter Table Place Settings

Each place setting has a ratan placemat (that I picked up last summer in Maine from a sweet antique store) I’ve seen similar placemats at TJ Maxx. I decided to use an antique pie plate as a charger beneath the bowl for added charm and a simple off white bowl with a blue line to match the blue and white mattress ticking tablecloth. (Next week I’ll be sharing a scrumptious white chicken chili to fill those bowls).

Winter Table Place Settings

And guess what? The tablecloth is fabric from Walmart!! Just left the edges raw and frayed. I love the look! Mattress ticking has always made my heart sing!

I used small silver frames as the place cards.

Winter Table Place Settings

And the napkin rings are merely a thin band cut from the arm of a sweater. So sweet and so simple.

Winter Table Place Settings

An antique sled leans against the fireplace adorned with vintage ice skates and a scarf. A subtle nod to the winter adventures I imagine to be taking place before gathering around this winter table.

Winter Table Place Settings

Who doesn’t love the idea of a cold winter evening spent cuddled up around a table that glows with candles wrapped in sweaters, bowls filled with pipping hot chili and friends all around? It’s a treat like no other when you gather people you love around a beautifully set table and relish in good food and conversation. You know, like they did back in the olden days. Without cell phones and interruptions. Just good old fashioned fun.

Winter Party Theme Ideas

These winter theme party ideas are simple and inexpensive yet will make your guests warm and cozy as you entertain during the winter months.

Winter Party Theme Ideas

I can’t tell you how much fun I’ve had lately as I’ve transformed my living room into an inviting, cozy, haven. It’s so delightful to come inside and snuggle into the warm comforting surroundings on these bitter cold days. Usually the winter months drag on endlessly for me. But this year, I’m just having too much fun all snuggled up. And you should too!! Why not invite some friends over to warm up with a magical winter dinner party after a fun afternoon of sledding or skiing!? You won’t believe how easy these party theme ideas are to make! Today I’m sharing my fireplace decoration ideas with you.

I embellished my mantle with a garland made of yarn pom poms.

Winter Party Theme Ideas

They are so simple to make (I did a tutorial here).  I used a small and medium sized pom poms and tied them onto a piece of yarn.

Winter Party Theme Ideas

I just love how the garland turned out! Reminds me of little puffy snowballs.

The candles are made out of sweaters! Or maybe I should say candle cozies. I used the arms of sweaters and tall and short glasses that I picked up for a few dollars at a thrift store. Make sure you use children’s sized sweaters because the arms are smaller and hug tightly around glasses. Some of the candles have the top folded down as a cuff, others do not. I used different textures and patterns of a similar palette for an all over cohesive look.

Winter Party Theme Ideas

I didn’t even need to finish the edges of the candle sweater cozies. None of the sweaters unraveled and I thought the unfinished edge add charm.

I found an old window at an antique store and leaned it on the mantle. Gazing through window panes always reminds me of winter, not to mention it gives height and visual interest to the scene. I hung a scarf wreath (find the how-to here) in the center for another cozy touch.

Winter Party Theme Ideas

Now if that mantle doesn’t say cozy, warm and snuggly then I don’t know what does!? I love that a few simple DIY’s made this winter scene affordable and enchanting at the same time.

Stayed tuned for the table setting tomorrow as well as yummy recipes and a fun cocktail next week!

DIY Wreaths Made With Scarves

DIY wreaths made with scarves are a cozy way to embellish your home during the winter months. They cost next to nothing and take minutes to put together.

DIY Wreaths Made With Scarves

I’ve been up to some winter fun around here! I decided jazz up my January by setting the scene for a festive warm-up dinner after some outdoor winter fun. During the next few weeks I’l be sharing decorating ideas, DIY projects and delicious recipes, that will melt away the cold and warm up your heart as well as your home. The first easy and festive project is this DIY wreath made out of scarves.

DIY Wreaths Made With Scarves

I decided to hit the thrift shops and found the most beautiful wool scarves and sweaters for my winter party at only a couple of dollars a piece. I bought a few foam wreath forms from my local craft store and then went to town. All I did was wrap the scarves around the foam, (which actually worked beautifully because the wool stuck to the foam so it didn’t slip).

DIY Wreaths Made With Scarves

Then used these floral pins (that have pearls on the end), to adhere the scarf to the foam. They were perfect.

DIY Wreaths Made With Scarves

A couple of the scarves had tassels on each end, but no worries! Just tuck them in before sticking in the pins!

DIY Wreaths Made With Scarves

Isn’t it just as cute as can be!?

DIY Wreaths Made With Scarves

Here are a couple of the other scarf wreaths I made for my winter fun party! I just love all the textured lines in this one.

DIY Wreaths Made With Scarves

And this one is so soft and etherial.

DIY Wreaths Made With Scarves

(You can take a sneak peak in the mirror to get a glimpse of the fireplace and mantle decorations. I’ll be sharing those next.)

DIY Wreaths With A Scarf

Here are the supplies you’ll need to make DIY wreaths made with scarves ::

  • foam ring from your local craft store (choose any size you like)
  • scarf (choose any type or color that tickles your fancy) I found all of mine at a local thrift store.
  • floral pins that have a pearl at the end (I found that these worked the best to affix the scarves because the pearl at the end kept the scarf secure)
  • yarn or ribbon to hang your wreath

DIY wreaths made with scarves. So easy, so darling and cost so little! I can’t wait to show you the rest of my winter party details! Hope you’ll come back for the fun!

Stay warm and cozy!

Christmas Decorations :: Wreath Place Cards

White feather wreath place cards add elegance to your table Christmas decorations and can also be used as darling gift tags.

Christmas Decorations Wreath Place Cards

I’m always dreaming of a white Christmas, aren’t you? All of the snow and sparkle that Bing Crosby so dreamily sings about seems to float around in my head as I pull all my Christmas decorations together. This year I think I’ve finally created the perfect white Christmas right in my very own dining room. Actually make that most of my house! I can’t wait to share all of the white {feather} fun with you! Today I’m  sharing my white feather place cards.

Christmas Decorations Wreath Place Cards

Aren’t they lovely? And they couldn’t be any easier to make! I just bent chenille pipe cleaner (that I got from JoAnn’s) into a circle and glued on some silver dragees, tied a silver ribbon into a knot, trimmed the edges and glued that onto the top of the wreath. For a personalized touch, I used my alphabet paper punches (from Micheals) and cut letters out of silver scrapbook paper.

Christmas Decorations Wreath Place Cards

They make lovely and elegant place cards but they also embellish a gift bag or package beautifully!

Items you’ll need for a wreath place card ::

  • chenille pipe cleaner
  • silver dragees
  • silver ribbon
  • alphabet paper punches
  • silver scrapbook paper

Christmas Decorations Wreath Place Cards

Make sure to stop back to see all my fun winter wonderland Christmas decorations that I’ve got going on throughout my house! You won’t have to worry about a white Christmas, you’ll have one inside your house!

Thanksgiving Mantle :: Gold Leaf Garland

Dress up your Thanksgiving mantle with a gorgeous gold leaf garland. You’ll get a sophisticated look with minimal effort that costs next to nothing!

Thanksgiving Mantle Gold Leaf Garland

I usually don’t do too much for my Thanksgiving mantle but after making my gold leaf pace cards, I just couldn’t seem to put my spray paint can down! I was so smitten with their luscious luster I just knew that I had to continue the gold leaf theme and embellish my mantle as well!

Thanksgiving Mantle Gold Leaf Garland

Garlands have become a staple decoration in my home. They are just so sweet and unassuming and add such a celebratory statement to any room.

Thanksgiving Mantle Gold Leaf Garland

For my mantle, I decided on a simple and somewhat small leaf and to give an all over unified affect, I gathered a collection of leaves that were all similar in shape and size.

Thanksgiving Mantle Gold Leaf Garland

After spray painting both sides of the leaves, I simply hung some white string across my mantle and hung them with small wooden clothes pins (that I found at Michaels).

Thanksgiving Mantle Gold Leaf Garland

Make your mantle dazzle this Thanksgiving with a gorgeous gold leaf garland!

Supplies you’ll need for a gold leaf garland :

Halloween Decorations :: Cameo Pumpkins

These cameo pumpkins are an easy and elegant way to decorate your home for Halloween. They take minutes to put together but will give your home a sophisticated spooky look that will last throughout the season.

Decorate your Halloween Pumpkins with Cameos

I have adored and collected cameo jewelry whilst antiquing for years now. I am so drawn to the creamy white silhouettes framed in smooth black backgrounds. Each cameo seems to have its very own story and I just can’t help myself when I come across one that speaks to me. My husband always smiles and laughs and asks me what I’ll do with yet another cameo and now I have an answer! I’ll make cameo pumpkins with them!

Halloween Decorations Cameo Pumpkins

I used white pumpkins so that the cameos would stand out but you easily paint orange pumpkins white.

Halloween Decorations Cameo Pumpkins

I hung my pendant cameos with a straight pin and the brooches and earrings just pushed right in on their own.

Halloween Decorations Cameo Pumpkins

If you don’t happen to have a cameo collection then you need to get started! Just kidding.

No, seriously, if you don’t have any cameos you can actually find some in craft stores that are inexpensive and easy to get! I actually found this one below at Hobby Lobby!

Cameo pumpkins will be my new easy and elegant decorating go to! I hope that they’ll be the same for you!

Halloween Decorations :: The Foyer

Greet all of you Autumn guests with some festive Halloween decorations in your foyer. Nothing sets the tone of your home like that first warm inviting step.

Halloween DecorationsThe Foyer

Halloween decorations have always been a favorite of mine ever since I was a little girl. I can still vividly remember those first crisp autumn days when my mom would pull out all of the folding paper pumpkins (the kind that opened up into a little orb of tissue honeycomb), do you remember those? I would help her fan them open and tuck back the little silver clip that held the pumpkin shape in place. Oh how I loved traipsing around behind her as she placed them about the house. My love of decorating with pumpkins must have started there, with those sweet little folding tissue pumpkins. But as the years have passed, I have traded my paper pumpkins in for real ones and I always smile and think of my mom as I place them about my house.

This year as I placed my  beloved cinderella pumpkin in my foyer I decided to add a few other embellishments to make my Halloween scene complete.

Halloween Decorations The Foyer

I just leaned a simple tree branch (that I found in my yard) against the wall and wove some store bought spider webbing through the branches.

Halloween Decorations The Foyer

Tucked in a few plastic spiders and hung up a couple of black ribbon bats.

Halloween-Decorations-The-Foyer-7099

The black ribbon bats are cinch to make! Just cut a piece of ribbon, tie a clear piece of craft string tightly around the center into a knot. Fold the ribbon in half and cut a few notches along the bottom edge of the ribbon to shape the wings.

Halloween Decorations The Foyer

Voila!  You’ve got a bat!

Invite guests into your home with a festive foyer this Halloween!

Halloween Decorations The Foyer

It’s a s easy as can be!

Supplies for Halloween Decorations in your foyer :

  • pumpkin (real or artifical)
  • tree branch
  • store bought spider web and plastic spiders
  • 3 inch wide black ribbon
  • clear craft string

Peony Flower Bouquet

A Peony flower bouquet adds easy elegance and charm to any room in your home.

Peony flower bouquet

Peony season is sadly coming to an end but my love for this exquisite flower always lasts the whole year through! Perhaps you’re lucky enough to live where these glorious beauties are still producing, I’ve still got a few buds ready to burst into a perfect pink blossom. Oh how I wish my peony would bloom the whole summer through!

So although my timing for sharing the beautiful peony with you is a bit behind due to some blog issues, I felt that in this case, better late than never was the way to go!

Peony flower bouquet

The soft, elegant, ruffle-like petals perfumed with the sweetest scent of spring always make my heart sing! The peony is such a romantic flower. Did you know that it dates back thousands of years and is known as the flower of riches and honor? It is also known to represent good fortune and a happy marriage.

Peony flower bouquet

I certainly know that a bouquet of these lovelies keeps me happy! However there is one drawback when bringing these lush flowers into your home…the ants! They love the peonies as much as I do and they invade the petals as their soft and comfy refuge. And who could blame them? I would too if I could!

Peony flower bouquet

But there happens to be an easy (and humane) way to eradicate these pesky little friends before they make their way into your home. Simply soak the flowers in a container of water until the little fellows are forced to swim out of their petal abode. I usually do this outside so that I can scoop the ants out of the water and return them to the comforts of my backyard.

Peony flower bouquet

Peony flower bouquet

It’s so easy to put together a peony bouquet.

  • Soak the stems and blooms in a container of water to remove ants before taking the flowers inside.
  • Once the ants are gone, gently shake the blooms to release the extra water.
  • Snap the leaves off along the bottom of the stem so they don’t decay.
  • Cut the stem at an angle to give more surface area to drink in the water.
  • Place the peonies in a pretty vase.

Peony Flower Bouquet

A peony bouquet equals easy elegance that will bring a smile to your lips as well as your heart. And who knows? Maybe some prosperity too?

Fabulous Find Friday ::: Antique Enamel Bowl

IMG_1175

Have you ever fallen in love (whilst antiquing) with something that you don’t necessarily need but just HAVE to have?

It’s the story of my life.

But most of the time that something that I don’t necessarily need quickly becomes something that I can’t live without once I get home.

This antique enamel bowl is one of those things…

antique-enamel-bowl-empty

When I first laid my eyes upon that smooth, perfectly white, flawless surface I just knew that I HAD to have it.

antique-enamel-bowl-close-up

But once I ran my finger along the perfectly painted forest green edge, well then, I knew that there was no turning back.

And guess what?

I’m so very delighted that I acted on my impulse! This dear antique enamel white bowl has served me well.

It makes a positively precious container for all of my herbs that I keep beside my kitchen window.

antique-enamel-bowl-herbs-horizntal

When entertaining, it makes the most delightful (leak free) beverage tub.

antique-enamel-bowl-ice-waters

After a long day of antiquing, it makes the perfect foot bath in switch to soak my aching feet.

*Not pictured*

And then when I may or may not purchase a plethora of pretty flowers?

antique-enamel-bowl-gerbers-final

It adoringly displays those as well.

If you don’t already own an antique white enamel bowl, (or twelve) *ahem* well then, I strongly suggest that you do.

You won’t be sorry.

Happy Friday All!

Love,

Wenderly
