Sequined Easter Eggs Tutorial

This sequined Easter eggs tutorial will show you how to make exquisite decorative eggs that you can use to adorn your home for years to come.

Sequined Easter Eggs Tutorial

I’ve been making these beautiful sequined eggs with my elementary students at school for years now. Every Spring I pull out the foam shaped eggs, sequins and straight pins and we go to town chatting and sharing stories whilst we create a magnificent specimen out of layered colorful circles held together with pins. I cherish this special time with my students. We sit together working quietly as our imaginations slowly unfold in a relaxed repetition of jewel-like splendor.

Sequined Easter Eggs Tutorial

Some students choose to make their egg into patterns of color, some choose a solid palette, while others cover the surface with a myriad of sizes, shapes and colors of sequins. There is no wrong or right way. Each egg comes to life at the hands of unique individuals who take the time to sit and create them. And each egg is as beautiful as the individual who creates them. And I tell them so.

Sequined Easter Eggs Tutorial

I love watching their faces glow in self discovery and awe of what their each capable of.  Most of the children can’t sit still for more than five minutes, but this project can capture them and entice them into a creative trance. And the end result of their hard work and dedication is truly priceless…

Sequined Easter Eggs Tutorial

just like each one of the beautiful children I am so fortunate to know and teach.

Items you’ll need to make sequined Easter eggs ::

  • Foam shaped eggs found at any craft store
  • Multicolored sequins, I like to get various sizes for layering
  • Flathead push pins

Take time to sit down with those you love and create something together. You’ll be surprised by the beauty that unfolds.

Happy creating,

Winter Table Place Settings

These winter table place setting ideas are a delightful way to embrace all of the simple beauty that a cozy winter day has to offer.

Winter Table Place Settings

Winter adventures always remind me of the simple delights of the days gone past. Visions of enchanting small towns nestled in a blanket of white. Quaint little frozen ponds surrounded by pine trees dressed in sparkling gowns of snow. Sleigh bells that jingle softly in the distance. I’m not sure why I paint those winter scenes in my mind, but they always comfort my soul somehow. So this January, I decided to create a table with all of those charming vintage images in mind.

I began with candles wrapped in sweaters sitting upon disks of wood surrounded by various sizes of pinecones for my centerpiece. I talked about how to make the sweater candles here.

Winter Table Place Settings

I added some mercury glass hurricanes for some icy sparkle.

Winter Table Place Settings

Each place setting has a ratan placemat (that I picked up last summer in Maine from a sweet antique store) I’ve seen similar placemats at TJ Maxx. I decided to use an antique pie plate as a charger beneath the bowl for added charm and a simple off white bowl with a blue line to match the blue and white mattress ticking tablecloth. (Next week I’ll be sharing a scrumptious white chicken chili to fill those bowls).

Winter Table Place Settings

And guess what? The tablecloth is fabric from Walmart!! Just left the edges raw and frayed. I love the look! Mattress ticking has always made my heart sing!

I used small silver frames as the place cards.

Winter Table Place Settings

And the napkin rings are merely a thin band cut from the arm of a sweater. So sweet and so simple.

Winter Table Place Settings

An antique sled leans against the fireplace adorned with vintage ice skates and a scarf. A subtle nod to the winter adventures I imagine to be taking place before gathering around this winter table.

Winter Table Place Settings

Who doesn’t love the idea of a cold winter evening spent cuddled up around a table that glows with candles wrapped in sweaters, bowls filled with pipping hot chili and friends all around? It’s a treat like no other when you gather people you love around a beautifully set table and relish in good food and conversation. You know, like they did back in the olden days. Without cell phones and interruptions. Just good old fashioned fun.

Winter Party Theme Ideas

These winter theme party ideas are simple and inexpensive yet will make your guests warm and cozy as you entertain during the winter months.

Winter Party Theme Ideas

I can’t tell you how much fun I’ve had lately as I’ve transformed my living room into an inviting, cozy, haven. It’s so delightful to come inside and snuggle into the warm comforting surroundings on these bitter cold days. Usually the winter months drag on endlessly for me. But this year, I’m just having too much fun all snuggled up. And you should too!! Why not invite some friends over to warm up with a magical winter dinner party after a fun afternoon of sledding or skiing!? You won’t believe how easy these party theme ideas are to make! Today I’m sharing my fireplace decoration ideas with you.

I embellished my mantle with a garland made of yarn pom poms.

Winter Party Theme Ideas

They are so simple to make (I did a tutorial here).  I used a small and medium sized pom poms and tied them onto a piece of yarn.

Winter Party Theme Ideas

I just love how the garland turned out! Reminds me of little puffy snowballs.

The candles are made out of sweaters! Or maybe I should say candle cozies. I used the arms of sweaters and tall and short glasses that I picked up for a few dollars at a thrift store. Make sure you use children’s sized sweaters because the arms are smaller and hug tightly around glasses. Some of the candles have the top folded down as a cuff, others do not. I used different textures and patterns of a similar palette for an all over cohesive look.

Winter Party Theme Ideas

I didn’t even need to finish the edges of the candle sweater cozies. None of the sweaters unraveled and I thought the unfinished edge add charm.

I found an old window at an antique store and leaned it on the mantle. Gazing through window panes always reminds me of winter, not to mention it gives height and visual interest to the scene. I hung a scarf wreath (find the how-to here) in the center for another cozy touch.

Winter Party Theme Ideas

Now if that mantle doesn’t say cozy, warm and snuggly then I don’t know what does!? I love that a few simple DIY’s made this winter scene affordable and enchanting at the same time.

DIY Wreaths Made With Scarves

DIY wreaths made with scarves are a cozy way to embellish your home during the winter months. They cost next to nothing and take minutes to put together.

DIY Wreaths Made With Scarves

I’ve been up to some winter fun around here! I decided jazz up my January by setting the scene for a festive warm-up dinner after some outdoor winter fun. During the next few weeks I’l be sharing decorating ideas, DIY projects and delicious recipes, that will melt away the cold and warm up your heart as well as your home. The first easy and festive project is this DIY wreath made out of scarves.

DIY Wreaths Made With Scarves

I decided to hit the thrift shops and found the most beautiful wool scarves and sweaters for my winter party at only a couple of dollars a piece. I bought a few foam wreath forms from my local craft store and then went to town. All I did was wrap the scarves around the foam, (which actually worked beautifully because the wool stuck to the foam so it didn’t slip).

DIY Wreaths Made With Scarves

Then used these floral pins (that have pearls on the end), to adhere the scarf to the foam. They were perfect.

DIY Wreaths Made With Scarves

A couple of the scarves had tassels on each end, but no worries! Just tuck them in before sticking in the pins!

DIY Wreaths Made With Scarves

Isn’t it just as cute as can be!?

DIY Wreaths Made With Scarves

Here are a couple of the other scarf wreaths I made for my winter fun party! I just love all the textured lines in this one.

DIY Wreaths Made With Scarves

And this one is so soft and etherial.

(You can take a sneak peak in the mirror to get a glimpse of the fireplace and mantle decorations. I’ll be sharing those next.)

DIY Wreaths With A Scarf

Here are the supplies you’ll need to make DIY wreaths made with scarves ::

  • foam ring from your local craft store (choose any size you like)
  • scarf (choose any type or color that tickles your fancy) I found all of mine at a local thrift store.
  • floral pins that have a pearl at the end (I found that these worked the best to affix the scarves because the pearl at the end kept the scarf secure)
  • yarn or ribbon to hang your wreath

DIY wreaths made with scarves. So easy, so darling and cost so little! I can’t wait to show you the rest of my winter party details! Hope you’ll come back for the fun!

Stay warm and cozy!

I just gathered up some of my white feather trees that I found at Target (last year), grabbed some of my glass hurricanes and filled them white white sugar and small mason jars (with the quilted design) that I filled with more sugar and white candles.

Christmas Decoration White Feather Table

For some texture I added some small bottle brush trees (from the dollar store) sprinkled a few small white flocked trees (from JoAnn Fabrics) then tucked soft white marabou boas (also from JoAnn Fabrics) to complete the winter white scene.

Christmas Decoration White Feather Table

I had a few sweet felted angels that I’ve collected through the years that I nestled into the enchanted white feathered forest. They add an endearing touch don’t you think?

Christmas Decorations :: Wreath Place Cards

White feather wreath place cards add elegance to your table Christmas decorations and can also be used as darling gift tags.

Christmas Decorations Wreath Place Cards

I’m always dreaming of a white Christmas, aren’t you? All of the snow and sparkle that Bing Crosby so dreamily sings about seems to float around in my head as I pull all my Christmas decorations together. This year I think I’ve finally created the perfect white Christmas right in my very own dining room. Actually make that most of my house! I can’t wait to share all of the white {feather} fun with you! Today I’m  sharing my white feather place cards.

Christmas Decorations Wreath Place Cards

Aren’t they lovely? And they couldn’t be any easier to make! I just bent chenille pipe cleaner (that I got from JoAnn’s) into a circle and glued on some silver dragees, tied a silver ribbon into a knot, trimmed the edges and glued that onto the top of the wreath. For a personalized touch, I used my alphabet paper punches (from Micheals) and cut letters out of silver scrapbook paper.

Christmas Decorations Wreath Place Cards

They make lovely and elegant place cards but they also embellish a gift bag or package beautifully!

Items you’ll need for a wreath place card ::

  • chenille pipe cleaner
  • silver dragees
  • silver ribbon
  • alphabet paper punches
  • silver scrapbook paper

Christmas Tree Traditions :: Tree Present

Decorating our Christmas tree is a treasured family tradition. We cherish rediscovering collected ornaments that make a simple tree transform into something magical.

Christmas Tree Traditions Tree Present

Ever since I was a little girl, I have loved the Christmas tree trimming tradition. Growing up I always thought that I had the most beautiful tree in the land. We all think that don’t we? We had a very traditional tree that was adorned with sugar cookies dressed in icing , popcorn and cranberries strung on some string, cheerful bows and candy canes tied and tucked into the branches. It smelled like heaven and looked to me like an enchanted fairyland. I’ve slowly changed the way I decorate my tree over the years but I’ve held on to the beloved Christmas tree present tradition from my youth.

Christmas Tree Traditions Tree Present

Sometime after the tree had been decorated, my parents would nestle a present for each family member into the branches of the tree that was to remain unopened until the tree was taken down. It gave all of us something to look forward to after the excitement of Christmas day had passed. Sometimes the gifts were simple perfumes and colognes and other times the very last gift to be given held a jeweled treasure that would bring tears to my mom’s eyes.

We now carry on the Christmas tree present tradition with our girls. For me, what makes the holidays so special is passing down family traditions and making memories with those I love that will last a lifetime.
